What is Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese term which means universal Reiki Founder life energy. This natural healing art is a hands-on method of healing. It was discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 1900’s and is now being used in conjunction with conventional medical care in select hospitals, clinics and other locations such as shelters around the world. Reiki treatments are used as a support for wellness with conventional medical care.

Reiki provides balance. It can be described as a subtle vibration which  supports our natural abilities to heal by bringing the energy field (biofield) into balance. It is gentle and holistic and it can be safely practiced in many clinical situations, including emergencies. There are no known contraindications to Reiki treatments.

It is shared by a practitioner who has been trained in transmitting healing energies, either by light touch over a fully clothed body or from a distance. Reiki provides a deep sense of relaxation and balance. The flow of energy may be felt as any type of sensation such as heat, cold, vibration, tingling, unusual heaviness, or sometimes as no sensation at all. It combines safely with conventional medical care or other complementary treatments. Reiki never overrides the healing process of a conventional or complementary treatment, but supports recovery from the side effects of these procedures. For example, Reiki has been shown to decrease the side-effects of chemotherapy in cancer patients. It is not a diagnostic tool and never replaces the need for conventional medical care, as prescribed by your health care provider.

Each person experiences Reiki in a different way, depending on his or her individual needs. For instance, if you are feeling tired, Reiki can energize you. If you are anxious or excited, Reiki can calm you. Most people find Reiki deeply calming, relaxing and balancing. Reiki has been documented to be effective in the many areas such as pain management, inflammation and swelling, blood pressure issues, cancer, HIV/AIDS, anxiety, depression, stress, addictions, abuse, ADHD…
A typical Reiki treatment lasts about one hour and is sometimes followed by a discussion between the recipient and the Practitioner on how they both experienced the session.
